One of the most common concerns we hear is whether floating shelves are difficult to install. And it’s understandable: traditional hidden mounting systems can require careful measuring and precise alignment of several separate mounting points.

Why Floating Shelves Can Be Tricky to Install
Many traditional floating shelves are mounted using two or more individual metal rods attached directly to the wall.
The idea is simple, but installation leaves very little room for error. Each rod needs to be positioned at the correct height and distance from the others so that all of them line up with the holes inside the shelf.
A small measuring difference can make sliding the shelf into place frustrating.
Our goal was to remove as much of that unnecessary precision from the installation process as possible.
One Bracket Instead of Separate Rods
Every FineWood floating shelf comes with a custom steel mounting bracket made specifically for that shelf.
Instead of installing individual rods one by one, the steel rods are already welded into their correct positions on a single mounting plate.
That means you don't have to measure the distance between the rods yourself.
You position one bracket, make sure it's level, secure it properly to the wall, and then slide the shelf onto the rods.
Simple.
What You'll Need
You don't need a workshop full of tools to install your shelf. For a typical installation, you'll need:

Your shelf comes with its hidden mounting bracket and the necessary mounting hardware.

How Installation Works
The basic process can be broken down into four steps.
1. Prepare Your Tools
Before starting, unpack your shelf and mounting components and make sure you have everything you need.
It’s much easier to complete the installation when your drill, level, pencil, tape measure, and hardware are ready before you begin.
2. Position the Bracket
Decide exactly where you'd like the shelf to sit.
Hold the bracket against the wall and use your level to make sure it's straight. Once you're happy with the position, mark the mounting holes with a pencil.
Remember to position the shelf, not simply the bracket, relative to your wall or surrounding furniture. Because the bracket is made to fit the shelf, its edges and mounting holes do not necessarily represent the exact center of the finished shelf.
3. Install the Bracket
Drill the required holes and secure the mounting bracket firmly to the wall using fixings suitable for your wall type.
Before moving on, check the level once more and make sure the bracket feels stable and sits securely against the wall.
4. Slide the Shelf Into Place
Now for the satisfying part.
Align the openings in the shelf with the steel rods and carefully slide the shelf onto the bracket until it sits flush against the wall.
The mounting hardware disappears inside the shelf, leaving you with the clean floating look you wanted.

The final load capacity depends on several factors, including the shelf dimensions, wall construction, mounting method, and quality of the installation.
