Every board has its own grain pattern, color variations, knots, and small natural details. Even two shelves made from the same type of wood and finished in the same color can look slightly different when placed next to each other.
We don't see that as a flaw.

We use solid ash because it offers a lovely balance between strength and visual character.
Ash has a distinctive, visible grain that gives even simple shelf designs plenty of texture. Its natural appearance also works beautifully with different finishes, from lighter, softer tones to deeper walnut-inspired colors.
This makes it particularly well suited to calm, natural interiors where the material itself becomes part of the design.
Instead of needing decorative details, the grain does much of the work.
Why We Use Natural Oil
The way wood is finished has a big impact on how it looks and feels.
Rather than covering our shelves with a thick layer of lacquer, we finish them with natural oil.
The oil penetrates the wood, helping to protect it while allowing its grain and texture to remain visible and tactile. Run your hand across the surface and it still feels like wood — because that's exactly what it is.
The finish also provides resistance to everyday moisture, although natural wood should still be protected from direct or prolonged contact with water.
For us, it's a finish that makes sense: protect the material without hiding what makes it beautiful.
Knots and Natural Marks Tell a Story
Perfectly uniform surfaces are easy to reproduce. Natural ones aren't.
Depending on the particular board, your shelf may contain knots, small cracks, changes in grain direction, or other natural markings.
We carefully inspect and work with these characteristics rather than automatically treating them as defects. Where appropriate, some natural cracks or imperfections may be filled with transparent epoxy resin, helping preserve the feature while creating a smooth, finished surface.
The goal isn't to make every piece of wood identical.
It's to make the most of the piece we have.
How to Help Your Wood Shelves Age Well
Real wood doesn't require complicated care, but a few simple habits will help keep it looking beautiful for years.
